Revelation Chapter 14

Revelation Chapter 14

14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion,

and with him an hundred forty [and] four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

14:2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:

14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, [being] the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

14:5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that

keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud [one] sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

14:15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

14:16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

14:17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast [it] into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

14:20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand [and] six hundred furlongs.

G od continues this breath-taking revelation of the end-times on planet earth with a view of the end-time true church and its message—the everlasting gospel. This is presented in contrast to the Devil’s players in the end-time great controversy—the Papacy and apostate Protestantism in the United States. The point of the placement and arrangement of this revelation is to show the reason and rationale of the seven last plagues that are coming. The response to the seven last plagues will reveal that neither appeals to the heart, nor threatenings of punishment and judgment, can persuade the fully rebellious to change or reconsider their refusal to have King Jesus rule over them. This is the final outworking of

the story Jesus told in Luke 19:14:

But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this [man] to reign over us.

Verses 1–12 picture the last generation of believers and their end-time message to the world. The qualities of the "graduating class" are represented as having the Father’s name—character—in their foreheads. This final generation of believers in the everlasting gospel, stand with Jesus the King in God’s kingdom. It is this final generation with the character-likeness to Jesus that is the stone that hits the image in Daniel 2 on the feet (our time) that destroys the kingdom of Satan. There is a statistically significant number in the "graduating class" of the everlasting gospel. The number is disclosed as 144,000! The Devil’s claim for the last generation is that God could get nobody to love Him more than life itself. This is shown to be false 144,000 times over! Here God has a graduating class of 144,000! These graduates have a new song that nobody but the class can learn. It is a song of the goodness of Jesus, His wisdom, His power to bring His people through the fires of persecution and through the waters of overwhelming trouble. It is a song of His righteousness and ability to give victory over the world, the beast, and the Devil. This graduating class has not been defiled with women. That means that they have refused the wine of the wrath of Babylon—the false doctrines of the churches of Rome. These graduates follow their Teacher, the Lamb, "whithersoever He goeth." They have kept their eyes on Jesus and followed Jesus when the whole world was looking at and wondering after the beast on earth. Now they get to continue following and being in the presence of Jesus for eternity. This is heaven—being in the presence of Jesus. Heaven begins here and we are all invited! The speech of this graduating class is pure and without any deception or guile ("fish bait"). This last generation, the "graduation class" demonstrates what all of the redeemed from all ages will be like after they have been in school for another 1,000 years with Jesus in heaven. This last generation is the "first fruits" of the harvest of believers from the whole world. It

the lies of Satan. Satan says as a final charge against God, His law and His government and purposes—you can forgive mankind, but they will never change once they have tasted the "freedom of sin"! God has staked His honor on the claim of being able to both forgive and to change character as part of the everlasting gospel. This is the "double cure" of the everlasting gospel. This is being able to "save to the uttermost" them that come to Jesus (Hebrews 7:25).is the demonstration of the fact that Jesus, as proclaimed in the everlasting gospel, can change anybody willing, so they fully and perfectly reflect His character-image. This is what totally destroys

Verses 6–12 give us the text of the everlasting gospel in the end-time setting. The investigative judgment is about to close. "Fear God and give glory to Him for the hour of His judgment is come." God is on the stand. God is being judged as well as the inhabitants of the earth! Are "God’s claims and requirements just and true?" The great destiny-determining question that each soul must answer is "What will ye then that I shall do [unto him] whom ye call the King of the Jews?" Mark 15:12. The message of the everlasting gospel is a call to "Fear God, and give glory to Him!"

"To give glory to God is to reveal His character in our own, and thus make Him known. And in whatever way we make known the Father or the Son, we glorify God" (MS 16, 1890). {7BC 979.4}

The reason for giving God our loyalty (instead of the beast and his image) is that Jesus (following His Father’s will) is the Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and the fountains of waters. Jesus, your Creator, is again on trial in the last generation of earth! What is your witness about Jesus? Do you witness that He is your Lord and King, your God, and Savior—or do you witness that He is worthy of death? Do you join the cry of the rabble crying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him"? Do you witness "We have no king but Caesar"? This is the issue before each one today. This is the destiny-determining question in the last generation. What is your answer? On the basis of our decision, not only determines our judgment of God, but our own judgment as well.

150 ~ THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL IN DANIEL & REVELATION

Verse 8 states that the everlasting gospel is repeated in another form that is understood only in the context of the final events of planet earth. Here the everlasting gospel is given in the form of a warning. "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." Babylon means confusion. There is a confusion of conflicting philosophies and doctrines that are encompassed in Babylon. This confusion stands in stark contrast to the unity of belief in harmony with God’s character (His law), His government, and His purposes. Babylon is the symbol of the future one world government in opposition to the Creator God. Being fallen means that the one world government and its religion is fallen from its love and loyalty to the Creator God. This is an appeal from God to repent and return in humility to the Creator God to give love, loyalty, and obedience to Him and His will as expressed in His law. The "wine of the wrath of her fornication" is the false doctrine being forced on the world by the Papacy through the one world government. Fornication refers to illicit union between church and state which is the image to the beast, the Papacy. Fornication is also a symbol of trying to put good and evil together as in the tree of knowledge of good and evil! Pluralism is spiritual fornication! Dualism is spiritual fornication! Dualism is the Greek philosophy that splits body and mind. Modern dualism teaches that a person is saved while they are sinning! (This is the doctrine of the Nicolaitans as seen in Revelation 3:6,15)

Here in Revelation 14 is not the first time this message has been given. To ancient Israel, in the days of ancient Babylon, the same message was given.

"And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, [with] a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground." Isaiah 21:9

Today, as anciently, the message is, "Do not fear Babylon, for it is fallen!"

THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL IN REVELATION ~ 151

Our response reveals what we believe!

Verses 9 - 11 continue the everlasting gospel proclamation. There is a third call portrayed by the 3rd angel from God to the last generation, giving an appeal to come out of Babylon and not receive the mark of the beast. This call to come out of Babylon is repeated in explicit terms in Revelation 18:4. Here in Revelation 14:9 and 10 we have the most severe threatening and warning from God that is contained in Scripture. "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name." What is this "mark" that calls forth from God such a warning of judgments?

"The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. While the observance of the false sabbath in compliance with the law of the state, contrary to the fourth commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to a power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God’s law, is an evidence of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other choosing the token of allegiance to divine authority, receive the seal of God." {GC 605.2}

This warning is given to the world for today! This is the day of salvation! The Papacy has recovered from its deadly wound. Apostate Protestantism in the United States is joining hands with the Papacy and is seeking to make the image to the beast—to re-instate the church-state union and bring in the same conditions into the world again that existed during the Dark Ages. The United States has started speaking with the voice of the dragon! This

152 ~ THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL IN DANIEL & REVELATION

is the appeal that comes to us from God while probation lingers. The wrath of God will soon be displayed in the trumpets and the plagues. This third angel’s message is a final appeal. It is not based on fear in terms of trying to frighten us—but based on His great love for all His children; a love that cannot let His children go. God is so good that he gives us warnings and threatenings as He did to Nineveh of old—"Forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown." Jonah 3:4. History is on the verge of being repeated. Now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2. God’s call to each one is "come out of her my people." Revelation 18:4. This gospel call of God is a repetition of that given in Ezekiel 18:31–32,

"Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn [yourselves], and live ye."

The smoke that rises up for ever and ever is the record of how bad the refusal to accept God’s invitations of mercy is. Sin will never arise again a second time. (Nahum 1:9) This is not because the universe will lose their freedom of choice. This is because the record of this terrible experiment with rebellion will be permanent. The character of God—that He is love—is fully demonstrated and no one will want to allow sin to rise again. The wisdom and goodness of God in dealing with sin will "ascend up for ever and ever." God’s prudence, wisdom, and love will be shown to be better and more elevated, the more we grow in our capacity to love and appreciate God. God can destroy the incorrigibly impenitent and rebellious at the end of the great controversy and have the whole universe praise Him for His goodness! God could not have done that before submitting His only begotten Son to the cross. The death of Jesus on the cross clarifies the issues in the ongoing trial of God, His law, His government, before the universe. God’s trial or judgment, continues now in our day! God is still looking today for human witnesses to His goodness and power to save from sin! God is still looking for a statistically significant number

THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL IN REVELATION ~ 153

of witnesses to His power to save in order to win His case and rest it before the universe. God’s wisdom and prudence and love are demonstrated in the everlasting gospel and in subjecting Himself to trial before His created beings in all the universe. This is God’s method of destroying the works of the Devil and winning the love and loyalty of His vast kingdom in the universe and on earth.

Verse 12 presents the "graduating class" of the everlasting gospel who are qualified as witnesses for God: "Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." They have stood faithfully during the world-wide pressure brought against them and the truth by the beast and his image!

Verse 13 looks forward to what is ahead of the world in the last days and gives a promise for all the martyrs that are going to be killed in the future as these last day events unfold: "Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."

Verses 14–16 give us a picture Jesus at the time of His second coming. The sharp sickle is a reaping instrument. The faithful believers in God are the fruit of the sacrifice of Jesus and the everlasting gospel. This pictures Jesus, at His second coming to reap the harvest of the earth—people who are fully mature and developed in their character. Every day we are all developing character. What we watch with our eyes, what we think about, what we say and what we do is what both shows and what determines our character. Unbelief does not stop character development. There is no way to stop character development. We are all ripening for earth’s final harvest developing Christ’s or Satan’s character-likeness.

Verses 17–20 picture the reaping of people who have refused to believe and repent and accept the everlasting gospel. Gethsemane was an olive grove that had a press in it to make olive oil. In this garden Jesus was pressed to death (and revived to go through to Calvary) for me and for you. If we refuse to accept what Jesus has done for us, we will ourselves be put in the press—the wine press

outside the kingdom of God outside the city of God—and our sins will crush us to death! May we accept the invitations of love and mercy from God today!
